Frequently Asked Questions FAQ's / What Is DNS?
Last post by Brodes - Sep 08, 2024, 04:09 PM
What is DNS? (Domain Name System)
DNS translates domain names to IP addresses which the Internet runs on – it's an address book for the Internet. DNS is the naming of the network. You are already using it provided by your internet service provider.
Let's suppose that you're visiting news.com.au on your browser. Your browser will contact a DNS server and ask the DNS server "what is the IP Address of news.com.au?", the DNS server will then start working on this query and reply to your computer with the IP Address of news.com.au. After that, your browser will communicate with IP Address of news.com.au given by the DNS server, and from this moment on, your browser is able to load pages from news.com.au.
Just remember that whenever you visit any website, a DNS server is used in the middle to give you the IP Address for that website.
By using DNS filtering, you can ensure that you are protected from browsing dangerous and/or inappropriate websites.

Our baseline offering can not identify who is accessing what website. We DO NOT monitor messages, texts, phone calls, location info or anything else, that will remain the job of parents.

Our control measures are primarily at the DNS level. Our DNS filters out nefarious websites, information harvesters, scammers, porn, social media and the like.

Our administrators have current volunteer working with children checks for your peace of mind.

There are so many offerings available, so what makes The Parent Pulse different?

Lets face it, technically savvy kids will always find ways to circumvent control measures. Here, at theparentpuls.org we endeavour to create opportunities for parents to connect, share experiences, and learn from each other. This sense of community is often absent in more traditional parenting resources for technical solutions.
By blending expert advice, a supportive community, and a holistic focus on both parents and children, theparentpulse.org fosters a more balanced, sustainable approach to keeping our kids safe online.
